Making Coconut Oil


Learn how to make your own organic coconut oil for cooking and cosmetic!

COCONUT OIL or COCONUT BUTTER is an edible oil derived from the wick ,meat and milk  of the coconut palm fruit .coconut oil is a white solid fat  ,melting at warmer room temperatures of around 25 degrees celsius ( 78 degrees F),in warmer climates during the summer months it is a clear thin liquid oil.Unrefined varieties have a distinct coconut aroma.
It is used as food oil,and industrial applications for cosmetics and detergent production.
Due to its high levels of saturated fat , numerous health authorities recommend limiting its consumption as a food.


  1. Split or crack coconut with a sharp cleaver or hammer. Use a mature brown coconut,rather than a young green one
  2. Scrape the meat of the coconut from the shell or remove the husk steadily use a coconut scraper, Sharp paring knife, or sturdy metal spoon   Removing the meat is tricky. A butter knife is much better than sharp paring knife. You can slide it in between the meat and the shell and pop pieces rather than slip,and cut your hand.
  3. Grate the coconut,hand grate the coconut using the fine side of grater.
  4. Soak and strain
  5. Heat
  6. Cool
  7. Skim
  8. Boil
  9. Strain & cool
